PUTTING THE ARTS FRONT AND CENTER

As we work to create our 21st century Louisville, we need to get beyond simply thinking in terms of attracting jobs and start thinking in terms of attracting industries. The gap between those with the most resources and those with the least has grown dramatically, creating a void in our economic structure as well as our social structure. Not only must we replace our lost middle class, but the new industries we attract must be modern and globally relevant to position Louisville competitively and establish the city as a leader in growing career fields.
As Mayor, I will go back to my former colleagues from Los Angeles to New York and make the case for Louisville as the premier, regional hub for film and television production. With a first-rate creative class and complementary artistic centers, a tax rebate incentive for qualifying productions and a gorgeous natural landscape for any film shoot, we are perfectly positioned to embrace the film industry and leverage this opportunity to be a significant and sustainable job creator and economic engine for the city.
Hosting this new creative industry will promote tourism and open Louisville to the rest of the nation where lasting business relationships can be established and leveraged to form partnerships and other complementary opportunities for our local businesses, universities and residents.
